Shades of Survival (S.O.S.) welcomes all individuals or organizations who are interested in reducing health disparities with breast cancer by reaching out to underserved women. This includes, but not limited to any and all cancer health professionals, survivors, outreach programs, health educators, advocates, and navigators.

Shades of Survival (S.O.S.) seeks to strengthen existing education and outreach efforts in our communities. We do this by increasing cancer screenings across Tarrant and Dallas County through networking, information sharing, and collaborations.

Community health workers address health disparities close to home

A community health worker like Carlene King can be the hand that pulls a person into a health care system for the first time. A certified, frontline worker who’s usually part of the community in which they work, they serve as liaisons, advocates, educators and, sometimes, someone in whom to confide. “We’re just that friendly bunch,” King said.
